Alfred E. Smith State Office Building, also known as the Smith Building, is located in downtown Albany, New York. The building is positioned across the street from One Commerce Plaza and the New York State Capitol. The building was named after Alfred Emmanuel Smith, a four-term governor of New York. Mr. Smith was also the Democratic Party's nominee for President of the United States in 1928. The building was erected in 1928, and contains the New York State Department of Civil Service, Department of State, Banking Department, New York State Liquor Authority, and Division of the Budget. The building has since been renovated, and the modern updates totaled over one hundred million dollars. The Alfred E. Smith State Office Building reflects Art Deco style, and it stands 34 stories high or 388 feet.
